6 Tips on Packing Your Kitchen before the Houston Moving Company Arrives

Here at B & S Moving we offer professional packing services to help make your move quick and painless. If you have ever moved before packing can be one of the most tedious processes, especially the Kitchen!

The kitchen has items in it that you will be using all the way up until the day of the move, and will more than likely be one of the first places you set up in your new home. Because let’s face it you’re going to be hungry after your big move!

If you follow these 6 tips for packing your kitchen, you’ll be ready to go without missing a beat! Take it from us, the professionals, these packing tips will greatly help you out:

Tip #1: Pack before you Houston Movers arrive

The worst thing you can do is wait until the movers arrive to start packing your kitchen. You want to take your time because you have lots of items that can easily break. Make sure you have plenty of boxes and padding to wrap your breakables (see next tip).

Although this is that last room you will probably pack, start at least 24 hours before your scheduled move.

Tip #2: Use SMALL boxes and Padding

When packing your plates and glasses, you want to protect them and get them to your new home in one piece. Using a good quality padding or paper to protect them is essential. These items can tend to get really heavy when packed together so use smaller boxes to save you and your Houston Mover’s backs and to prevent the bottoms of the boxes from giving out!

Tip #3: Pack essentials last and Label

Your kitchen has lots of items in it, which will take some time to unpack and organize in your new home. Get a box ready for the essential items you will need at your old home last and your new home first. Label that box appropriately so you know this box is the first to be unpacked. Some items could be easy to cook meals, cups, plates & bowls for eating on (or disposable versions), and of course a couple rolls of paper towels.

Tip #4: Completely Clean the fridge

When you Houston Movers arrive, your fridge needs to be completely empty and cleaned out. You should do this at least 1 whole day before the move. Try not to take any heavy grocery shopping trips within 3 weeks of your move. Don’t pack any ice chests into boxes, rather save them to transport your remaining refrigerated items. When arriving at your new home it will take some time for your fridge to cool down again, so you will more than likely need to keep your items in the coolers for an additional day.

Tip #5: Packing Cleaning Supplies

Make sure all your cleaning supplies are completely sealed and labeled before moving. Ensure that each bottle is tightly closed and free from leaks. Before moving you want to verify with the Houston Moving Company what items they can and cannot move.

Some Houston Movers cannot move items such as bleach, kerosene, weed killer, charcoal, batteries, aerosol, matches, poisons or anything combustable. Give you mover a call before hand and ask them specifically which items can be moved. Make sure to clearly label the box so extra caution can be taken.

Tip #6: Gas Stoves

If you are moving and plan on taking your Gas stove or range, have a specialist come and unhook the gas lines for you in advance. Moving companies are not licensed to mess with gas lines in a home.

The Kitchen is where we spend a lot of our time in our homes and you want to ensure all the items in it get from A to B safely and in one piece. Following these tips can help your next move be smooth and successful!
